STANDARD ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT FOR WILDLAND FIRE FIGHTING.

This standard shall specify the minimum design, performance, testing, and certification requirements for protective clothing, helmets, gloves, and footwear that are designed to protect fire fighters against adverse environmental effects during wildland fire-fighting operations. 1-1.2 This standard shall specify the minimum design and certification requirements for fire shelters that are designed to protect fire fighters against adverse environmental effects during wildland fire-fighting operations. 1-1.3 This standard shall apply to design, manufacturing, and certification of new protective clothing and equipment. This standard shall not apply to wildland protective clothing, equipment, and fire shelters manufactured to previous editions of NFPA 1977. 1-1.4* This standard shall not apply to eye or respiratory protection for wildland fire-fighting operations and shall not apply to protection from structural, proximity, approach, or entry fire-fighting operations, nor from hazardous materials emergency operations. This standard shall not apply to protection from radiological or biological agents. 1-1.5 The requirements of this standard shall not apply to accessories that might be attached to any item of the wildland fire-fighting protective clothing or equipment unless specifically addressed herein. 1-1.6 Certification of wildland fire-fighting protective clothing and equipment to the requirements of this standard shall not preclude certification to additional appropriate standards where the protective clothing or equipment meet all applicable requirements of each standard. 1-1.7 Nothing herein shall be construed to restrict any jurisdiction or manufacturer from exceeding these minimum requirements.
